Rewire of a submain for a farm house in Mold, North Wales
House renovation
At the end of last year we carried out a rewire on a farm house in Mold.
The house was renovated and we carried out a full rewire. All of the circuits were replaced and so was the consumer unit. During the house renovation the customer had two new bathrooms fitted and wanted to have a new electric shower. The original supply from one of the farm buildings was to small to carry the electric required for the new installation.
Rewire of the submain
This year when the weather had improved we installed the new submain. This involved removing the old cable from the over head catenary cable and installing a new one.
We had some new brackets welded by a local fabricator and painted them black. These were attached to the farm house wall with rawl bolts. The same was done at the outbuilding and a new catenary wire was suspended in between.
The new cable that we used to supply the house is a rubber insulated cable suitable for all weather conditions and has uv protection.
The cable was suspended underneath the catenary wire with cable ties. A loop was left at either end so no stress was on the new cable. The new cable stretched about 50 metres between the buildings. Luckily for us there was an old telegraph pole half way along the cable run. This was used as extra support for the cable and to spread the weight a little.
After the submain rewire we fitted a new fused isolator
At the supply end, in the out building, a new isolator was fitted with an 80 amp cartridge fuse. This supplies a good capacity of power to the new installation in the house. The installation is now much safer and there isnt a risk of losing power due to overload.
It was a good job on the day. The weather was sunny for a change and the sound of the cows made it quite pleasant!!
